Dance Examinations

The International Dance Teachers Association is under the control of The British Dance Council and this is a member of the World Dance Council.

Examinations may be taken in the following:

Sequence                 Latin                Ballroom        Freestyle

For young children from three to ten years of age we have the Rosette and Stardance Awards to experience the wide forms of dance and rhythm. Persons with special requirements of any age are permitted to take these awards without restriction.

Then we have the social dance awards when one is not required to know the technique of the dance as they do not get a marking sheet.

Bronze one may commence at this level or they may take a one dance test before they do the full Bronze when one has to do two two dances if it is ballroom two out of Waltz, Quickstep, Slow Foxtrot and tango and do five  figures in each dance. The they may take a Bronze 2 to complete the other dances

Silver we have to do three dances with 6 figures in each dance

Gold is four dances with more figures.

The we go on to Gold Bars 1 to 3 when one may dance the Viennese Waltz as one of them.

Then it is Gold Stars 1 to 5

Then Presidents Award 1 to 4

Then International Award 1 to 4

Then International Supreme Award 1 to 4

Ehen International Supreme Certificate.

In the Latin we have the same test but the dances are Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Samba Jive , Paso Doble and Mambo . In Gold and above one has to dance the Rumba

In Classical Sequence (This was Old Time) we Waltzes, Two Steps, Tangos Saunters, Gavottes and Glides.

Then we have examinations in Line Dance and Latin in Line

In each branch we have Professional examinations

We have the Student test one can take when one is over 16 years

Then Associate when you must be over 17 years

The if you have been teaching for more the two years we have Licentiate.

Then  we have the Fellowship examination.

We also have an optional examination  the CDE & FD1 (Certificate in Dance Education.
